About me
COUNSELLOR AND PSYCHOTHERAPIST (Dipls. Psych., Adv Psych., UKCP reg)
I qualified as a psychotherapist after an extensive five-year postgraduate training in integrative and transpersonal psychotherapy at CCPE in London. I’ve since done an additional two years of advanced training. I’ve been working one-to-one with clients since 2016 in a variety of settings, including private practice, as well as the charity sector, and as part of my initial training I spent time at an NHS hospital. I’ve worked with a range of issues, but mainly depression, anxiety, stress, bereavement, developmental trauma (such as from narcissistic parenting), a loss of meaning or purpose, a lack of sense of self, and the feeling that things just aren’t ‘right’.
In addition to my one-to-one work, I’m a teaching staff member at CCPE, facilitating and teaching trainee therapists on the Foundation and Diploma courses. To support my work, I do CPD to ensure I keep developing and deepening my skills. I’ve practised yoga for almost 25 years and have built a daily meditation practice over the last decade, and attend personal meditation retreats several times a year. I receive regular clinical supervision.
I’m UKCP Registered, which means I’m an accredited psychotherapist.
EXPERIENCED EDITOR
After working at major publishing houses for fifteen years, I closed that chapter.
During my in-house career, I worked with many award-winning and bestselling children’s fiction authors. In the final few years, books I’d acquired won or were shortlisted for the Waterstones Book of the Year Award, the Waterstones Children’s Fiction Prize, the Waterstones Gift of the Year prize, the Guardian Children’s Fiction Prize, the Blue Peter Book Prize, the Laugh-out-Loud Book Award, the Carnegie Medal and the Amnesty CILIP Honour. I also spearheaded the launch of a new list that aimed to address the gender balance in fiction, specifically the untold and mistold stories from female voices.
As a therapist, having worked in a highly pressured industry means I also understand the realities and stresses of corporate and office life.
WORKSHOPS AND TEACHING — PUBLISHING
I have experience running workshops and teaching both writers and postgraduate publishing students. Since 2016, I’ve been a member of Columbia University’s book faculty for its annual postgraduate publishing course run at Oxford University and during Covid also worked online for the New York course, and am on its admissions committee for the UK and US courses. I’ve also co-facilitated at the University of Limerick’s Winter Writing School, and have previously been a guest lecturer on their MA in Creative Writing.
